Detecting AI-generated documents and deepfakes in financial onboarding

As generative tools spread, the forged document is no longer clumsy, it is convincing, cheap and scalable.

Falsified identity documents and corporate extracts were once detectable by trained eyes. Generative AI has changed the threat model: fabricated documents and deepfakes are now easy to produce at scale, and manual inspection cannot keep pace. Defending against synthetic fraud requires AI on the defensive side too.

Forensic defences

  • Metadata and provenance analysis of submitted files
  • Font, stamp and layout inconsistency detection
  • Classifiers trained to flag AI-generated imagery and text
  • Cross-referencing document content against authoritative data

Synthetic identity flagging

A submitted identity document whose metadata and rendering signatures indicate synthetic generation is escalated for enhanced review rather than auto-accepted.

Data cross-check

Claims in a document are validated against authoritative sources, catching fabrications that look internally consistent but contradict the source of truth.
